The activity involves manual labor. A wooden pallet weighs around 50lbs and requires 4 persons to carry. Participants must be at least 5 years of age (as of 25 August 2017) and ensure that they are physically fit. Participants aged 12 years or below (as of 25 August 2017) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who shall bear all responsibilities in relation to the participant’s safety.

Eligibility:
  1. Each team must consist of 10 persons.
  2. Each team is required to pay an application fee of $300. Refund will be arranged after the race. Please make payment by crossed cheque payable to “Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited” or by banking into the account of “Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited” (Bank of East Asia: 015-514-10-407756-4) and return the cheque /payment slip to Service Department, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited (12/F, 112 Kennedy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong).
  3. The race involves carrying the sedan chair and completing specified tasks in the maze. Participants must be at the age of 18 or above on 25 August 2017 and physically fit to perform the tasks.

Notes for Participants

  1. *Latest: The activity will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for “the longest line of pallet merchandising” by building a 1,020m maze wall by pallets in the event. All participants of “Building Outdoor Maze” will get a certificate issued by the Welfare Council for free. Applicants who are absent from the “Building Outdoor Maze” activity will not be awarded with a certificate. In the event of a successful attempt, participants could apply for a certificate of participation issued by the Guinness World Records with a fee. Application forms could be obtained from your corresponding zone leader who is staff of the Welfare Council. Please submit the filled form with cheque/ bank-in slip to the Welfare Council by post (Address: 12/F, 112 Kennedy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong) or by email to webuild@skhwc.org.hk on or before 31 Aug (Thursday) and late submission will not be accepted. A confirmation email will be sent to the applicants upon the form and fee received. The processing time for the application needs around 2 to 3 months and you will be informed via email once the Welfare Council receive the certificates from the Guinness World Records. Application fee for self-pick up is HK$220. Please bring with the confirmation email and pick up the certificate at the Headquarter from Monday to Friday at 9:00am to 1:00pm or 2:00pm to 5:30pm. Application fee for registered letter is HK$250.
  2. Participants shall follow the rules and regulations set out by the organizer and the instructions given by the event helpers (including event staff and volunteers).
  3. Participants of Activity 1 “Building Outdoor Maze and Pavilions” and/or Activity 3 “Sedan Chair Racing” must attend the respective briefing session to be held before the activity starts.
  4. Participants should make sure that they are physically fit to participate in the activities. Participants with heart diseases, respiratory diseases, orthopedic or joint diseases, neurological diseases or other serious diseases, and participants who are pregnant, children or elderly should consider whether it is suitable for them to participate in the enrolled activities. If in doubt, please consult a doctor. On the event day, participants should pay attention to their physical conditions to see if they are physically fit for the activity. When feeling unwell during the activity, participants should seek help from event helpers nearby immediately.
  5. Participants are recommended to wear light-coloured long-sleeved shirts and trousers, apply sunscreen and drink plenty of water to avoid heat stroke. If any person shows symptoms of heat stroke, please move him to a cool shaded place, loosen his collar, help him lie down with feet elevated and notify the event staff immediately. As there may be sudden change of weather, participants are recommended to bring umbrellas/ raincoats.
  6. Participants should wear comfortable shoes. As the activities “Building Outdoor Maze and Pavilions” and “Sedan Chair Racing” involve manual labor, participants should not wear sandals. For “Sedan Chair Racing”, a chair weighs about 30kg. Participants should assess their physical ability and should not push themselves beyond their limit.
  7. Participants should keep all valuables with themselves at all times during the event. The organizer shall not be liable for any loss of and damage to personal properties.
  8. Participants should ensure that they are not participating in the activities under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Participants shall not consume prior to the activities any medication which may directly affect their ability.
  9. The contact person will receive a confirmation email with activity details within 3 working days after submitting the application. If no confirmation email is received within 3 working days, it may be caused by the situation of: (1) The system is busy at the moment and could not show the confirmation message; (2) The application is not completed; (3) The email address provided by the contact person is not valid; (4) The confirmation email is treated as junk mail. Please check the mailbox again or call 2533 1209. On the event day, please bring along the confirmation email and identity proof of each and every participant. The organizer may verify the identity of participants where necessary.
  10. Teams who wish to change members or participants who wish to withdraw from the enrolled activity must give written notice to the organizer by filling in and returning the “Change of Participant/ Withdrawal Form” before 22 August 2017. Please return the completed form by email (webuild@skhwc.org.hk), by fax (2523 4846) or by post (Service Department, 12/F, 112 Kennedy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong).
  11. If Typhoon Signal No.3 or above/ Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory 2 hours before the event starts, the activities of that day will be cancelled or rescheduled. Announcements will be made on this website and the official Facebook page (Together we build_Skhwc). If the weather conditions turn bad during the event, participants should go to and stay in a safe or sheltered area and pay attention to the organizer’s broadcasting. To ensure the safety of participants, the organizer reserves the right to terminate or cancel the activities depending on the weather condition. If Typhoon Signal No.3 or above/ Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory during the event, the event will be cancelled.
  12. The organizer has purchased public liability insurance (i.e. the “third party insurance”) in respect of the event. Participants can purchase personal injury and property insurance or other appropriate insurances on their own if deemed necessary.
  13. The organizer shall have the absolute discretion to use any photographs and recordings of participants taken during the event for future promotional purposes.
  14. Participants should ensure that the information provided in this form is true and accurate; otherwise the application may be rejected or cancelled by the organizer.
  15. Before participating in the activities, participants should ensure that they have read, understood and agreed to the above notes.
  16. The organizer reserves the right to make any changes to the above information without prior notice.
