Sedan Chair Racing

20 Designer Pavilions can be transformed into 20 sedan chairs, showcasing innovative and versatile designs to the public. Participants can team up for an exciting and challenging sedan chair racing around the maze.

Time: 09:00am to 11:00am

Lease produce the confirmation email for registration and attend the briefing session at least 30 minutes before the race starts. If you fail to do so, you may not be allowed to participate in the enrolled activity.


  • Only for team enrolment by the public/ schools/ social service organizations;
  • Each team must consist of 10 persons;
  • Each team is required to pay an application fee of $300. Refund will be arranged after the race. Please make payment by crossed cheque payable to “Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited” or by banking into the account of “Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited” (Bank of East Asia: 015-514-10-407756-4) and return the cheque /payment slip to Service Department, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited, 12/F, 112 Kennedy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
  • The race involves carrying the sedan chair and completing specified tasks in the maze. Participants must be at the age of 18 or above on 25 August 2017 and physically fit to perform the tasks.


Race format:

  • Participating teams shall complete specified tasks within the time limit. The race order will be decided by lot.
  • The race will have a Champion, a First Runner-up, a Second Runner-up and “The Most Distinctive Team Styling Award”. Participating teams can show up with creative team styling and outfits, which must be safe and pose no danger to others, including staff, other participants, volunteers and the public.
Large Furniture with Relaxing Space and Interactive Area and Mega Outdoor Adventure Maze

The public will have inspiring and enjoyable experience in the giant maze and enjoy the relaxing space to interact with other families while appreciating the meticulous designs created by designers and service users and experiencing a wide range of leisure activities.

Treasure Hunt – Finding the “20”

There will be mini pallets with numbers and mathematical operators on them. Participants who complete the mission by looking for the appropriate pallets will be presented with a gift.

DIY Workshops and Activities

A variety of DIY workshops and activities are organized for public enjoyment.


Time: 09:00am to 06:00pm

Eligibility: Individuals of all ages are welcome.

Remarks: Any participant at or under the age of 6 on 25 August 2017 must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian.

Activity 1-5

Participants can sign up for one session only for each workshop/activity. Please produce the confirmation email for registration and attend the briefing session at least 10 minutes before the workshop/activity starts. If you fail to do so, you may not be allowed to participate in the enrolled workshop/activity.

Mini pallet creation workshop– You will experience how to create various utilities and decorations, such as pen holder, photo frame, etc. by using mini pallets.
Solar toy car workshop – You will learn how to make a solar toy car.
Wooden model plane workshop – You will learn how to make a wooden model plane.
HENNA Tattoo and Sticker – You will get fantastic henna tattoos or stickers drawn on your face or hands.
Balloon “FUN” – You will learn how to make and twist balloon in different shapes

Activity 6-17

Underwater Robotics Team – Micro Unmanned Vehicle – You will learn how to make a solar powered boat by using pallets.
Design Thinking: The Community Quilt - An experiential workshop for the public to gain a better understanding of architectural concepts, urban design, etc. You will have the opportunity to create your ideal community by cement cubes and experience the power of design on improving the community and our everyday life.
Brush up my city - Reimagine the scenery of Central and Western District with traditional brush strokes and creative writing!
Story Time – You will learn the meaning behind architecture and to care your communities in the picture book reading time.
Sunshine Library – To promote children’s curiosity and understanding of the society and their communities through the picture book library.
Build² Together – The instructors will teach participants to create wall hangers with reusable wooden pallets and build small wooden chairs at the practical, fun-filled and eco-friendly workshop. Kids can also make different decorative items with colourful toy bricks in a creative manner.
“Happy Moments of Family” Snapshot Competition – You will have the opportunity to capture the happy moments with your families by snapshot. A limited edition family board game specially designed by Chocolate Rain would be given to entrants who have liked the Facebook page of the Family Council and successfully uploaded their photos.
Drama - “I am a good Potato” – You will learn about local agriculture, and to cherish nature and food through the drama.
Talk - “Tech for Health” - Members of the public like you and me can utilise the latest technology to improve our daily lives. Let's explore how it is done, starting with tech for health!
Talk - Dress up our city, “Poetry about time and space” - Fashion and architecture stretch the concept of space and record the marks of time. Ms Fong, director of “Object A” will present and inspire participants to appreciate the beauty of architecture and fashion.
Exhibition - Home X Community - Presenting the endless possibilities of interactions between architectural design, community and urban development.
