Introduction

“Together We Build – Community Engagement in Public Space Transformation @ SummerFest Lifestyle”, organized by Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council,  co-organized by Central & Western District Office and Central Venue Management and assisted by Central & Western District Council, is an interactive and experiential activity involving cross sector and cross generation engagement. The event will gather over 2,000 participants to build 20 large-sized furniture featuring healthy lifestyles, and a HK shaped giant outdoor maze of 5,000m2. Large furniture will be transformed into a sedan chair for sedan chair racing. There will also be a variety of DIY workshops, parent-children activities for public enjoyment. Let’s build and join in the fun!

Objectives
  • To engage cross sector stakeholders to transform public space into meaningful uses for people with different lifestyles and needs so as to foster social integration, bring creativity to open space and arouse public interest in community building, architecture and design.
  • To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, presenting and advocating Hong Kong as an inclusive community.
  • To raise funds from the specified programmes(*) for the Sheung Kung Hui Stroke Rehabilitation Charity Fund, which benefits patients from low income families for timely rehability services and earlier recovery.

Important Notes

Eligibility

Build the Outdoor Maze and the Pavilion:

The activity is physically demanding. Participants must be aged 5 years old or above on 25 August 2017 and physically fit. Any participant at or under the age of 12 on 25 August 2017 must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian.

 

Sedan Chair Racing:

The race involves carrying the sedan chair and completing specified tasks in the maze. Participants must be at the age of 18 or above on 25 August 2017 and physically fit to perform the tasks.

 

DIY Workshops and Activities:

Individuals of all ages are welcome. Any participant at or under the age of 6 on 25 Aug 2017 must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian.

 

Other activities:

All are welcome.

Adverse Weather Arrangement

  • If Typhoon Signal No.3 or above/ Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory 2 hours before the event starts, the activities of that day will be cancelled or rescheduled. Announcements will be made on this website and the official Facebook page (Together we build_Skhwc).
  • If the weather conditions turn bad during the event, participants should go to and stay in a safe or sheltered area and pay attention to the organizer’s broadcasting. To ensure the safety of participants, the organizer reserves the right to terminate or cancel the activities depending on the weather condition.
  • If Typhoon Signal No.3 or above/ Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory during the event, the event will be cancelled.

Safety Reminder

  • Participants are recommended to wear light-coloured long-sleeved shirts and trousers, apply sunscreen and drink plenty of water to avoid heat stroke.
  • If any person shows symptoms of heat stroke, please move him to a cool, shaded place loosen his collar, help him lie down with feet elevated and notify the event staff immediately.
  • As there may be sudden change of weather, participants are recommended to bring umbrellas/ raincoats.
  • Participants should wear comfortable shoes. As the activities “Build the Outdoor Maze and the Pavilion” and “Sedan Chair Racing” involve manual labor, participants should not wear sandals.
  • For “Sedan Chair Racing”, a chair weighs about 30kg. Participants should assess their physical ability and should not push themselves beyond their limit.
  • Participants should keep all valuables with themselves at all times during the event. The organizer shall not to be liable for any loss of and damage to personal properties.

  • Access the site from Central (exit A). Approximately 10 minutes walking distance.
  • Access the site from HK Station (exit A2). Approximately 7 minutes walking distance.
  • From Admiralty Station head towards Tamar Park, walk through the park towards the Waterfront Promenade and turn left. Approximately 10 minutes walking distance.

  • Depending on the bus route, you can alight in Central, Admiralty or the Outlying Ferry Piers and walk to the site. Few minutes walking distance.

  • Take the Star Ferry to Central and walk towards the left after disembarking. Approximately 1 minute walking distance.

  • Alight at the Star Ferry taxi drop off and walk straight ahead. Approximately 4 minutes walking distance.

  • There is no parking at Central Harbourfront Event Space. The closest public car parks are located at Star Ferry, City Hall, IFC, New World Tower and Pacific Place.
